TIDEWATER TEEN BOWLING CHAMPIONS CROWNED

Champions have been crowned in the second annual Tidewater Young American Bowling Alliance Invitational Tenpin Tournament.

The competition was held at the Naval Station Lanes for the top average bowlers in all the area leagues under the jurisdiction of Tidewater YABA.

Plaques were awarded to the top two finishers among boys and girls in four age divisions - bantam, prep, junior and major/senior.

Kristi Richards of Indian River was the girls major/senior winner. Phil Aspiras of Pinboy's of Chesapeake was the boys major/senior champ. Susan Deluna of Pinboy's of Lynnhaven was girls runner-up. Only one award was given in major-senior boys due to a smaller entry.

Michael Kuks of Pinboy's at the Beach and Jason Bryan of Pinboy's of Military were 1-2 in the boys junior division. Erin Santos of the Naval Station and Candyce Allen of Pinboy's of Lynnhaven were the top two finishers in the girls junior category.

Little Creek's James Gernhart and Joseph Bitola of Pinboy's of Chesapeake placed 1-2 among prep boys. Winner Jennifer McDonough of Franklin and runner-up Jamie Allensworth of Indian River led prep girls.

Timmy Talmadge of Pinboy's of Norfolk led the bantam boys. Theus Aspiras of Pinboy's of Chesapeake was runner-up. The bantam girls winner was Jessica White of Oceana. Runner-up was Christine Harrison of Little Creek.

Dick Barber is president of the Tidewater YABA, which includes 16 area centers.

The association will be conducting its annual city tournament in April.

Bowler of the Week honors go to Carrie Paisley, who has become only the fourth local woman league bowler to post a 300 game.

Paisley accomplished the feat en route to a 716 series in the Monday's Scratch Doubles Tenpin League at Pinboy's of Chesapeake.

Ranked No. 5 on last year's All-Metro team, Paisley is one of the area's most active bowlers. She competed regularly in five leagues and subbed in three others while carrying averages ranging from 180 to 194 last season.
