Capt. Joseph E.M. Wood, U.S.N. Ret., 94, a resident of Marian Manor, died Feb. 11, 1995.
He was a native of Buffalo, N.Y., and was the widow of Elizabeth Compton Wood. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Annapolis, Md., the Annapolitian Club of Annapolis, Md., and the Sons of the American Revolution, Maryland Chapter.
He graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Class of 1923, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. Captain Wood served in several commands in the Norolk area. He was the executive officer of the U.S.S. Tennessee. After service in the War Department, he retired to and lived in Annapolis, Md., for 50 years. Capt. and Mrs. Wood retured to the Tidewater area in 1990 to be near their daughter.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Wood ``Breeze'' Stewart of Virginia Beach, and Sarah Wood Tator of Salinas, Calif.; one grandaughter and three grandsons.
A memorial service will be held at the Unity Church of Tidewater at a later date. Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, is handling the arrangemnets.
