DR. CLIFFORD B. JONES SR.

Clifford B. Jones Sr., 99, of 1305 Southern Ave., Elizabeth City, died Thursday, Feb. 9, in the Albemarle Hospital.

A native of Washington County, North Carolina, Dr. Jones had been a resident of Elizabeth City for 67 years. He was in the practice of dentistry for 66 years. He was a member of Corner Stone Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a member of the Deacon Board.

Dr. Jones was a member of the Old North State Dental Society; the National Dental Association; the American Dental Association; the American Legion Post 223; and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He was a trustee emeritus of Elizabeth City State University. He received his bachelor's degree from Shaw University and doctor of dental surgery degree from Meharry Medical College.

Dr. Jones was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Johnson Jones. Survivors include a son, Dr. Clifford B. Jones, Jr.; two grandsons, Dr. Clifford B. Jones, III and Milton Calloway Jones; a daughter-in-law, Dr. Carol Jones, all of Elizabeth City and a brother, Charlie Williams of Edenton.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in Moore Hall Auditorium of Elizabeth City State University with the Reverend Charles L. Foster officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Viewing will begin 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Walson Funeral Home. Dr. Jones will lie in state 1 hour prior to the service at Moore Hall Auditorium. Friends and relatives will assemble at 1305 Southern Avenue by 11:15 a.m. Monday.
