WILLIAM J. THOMAS

William Joseph Thomas, 86, died at his home on Saturday, Feb. 11, 1995. He was a resident of Surry County and a lifetime deacon of Moore's Swamp Baptist Church.

He was a retired farmer and carpenter. He was the son of the late William Henry and Sarah Elizabeth Britt Thomas and the father of the late Ruby T. Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Lilly Berryman Thomas; one daughter, Marian T. Edwards of Ivor; two sons, James William Thomas of Ivor and Bobby Thomas of Elberon; a brother, Wilbur L. Thomas of Newport News; 14 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14, 1995, at 11 a.m. in Moore's Swamp Baptist Church by the Rev. Rick Pressley. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, on Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the residence, 337 Berrymans Corner Road. Memorial donations may be made to Moore's Swamp Baptist Church, 2200 Runnymede Road, Elberon, Va. 23846.
