CECIL F.M. MORRIS

Cecil F.M. Morris Jr., 89, died Saturday night at his residence in the Acredale section of Virginia Beach.

A native of Norfolk, he was employed by the Norfolk Southern Railway for 51 years prior to his retirement in 1971 as freight traffic manager of rates. In that half century, he never missed a day's work from illness.

After his retirement, he was a deputy clerk of the Virginia Beach Circuit Court for 10 years.

As a young man, Mr. Morris won recognition as one of the area's outstanding bowlers. In his later years, he continued to win trophies as a member of the Senior Citizens Bowling League.

A devoted Mason, he was a 50-year charter member of Naaomi Lodge No. 87 and at his death had served as its secretary from the date of its dispensation 49 years ago. Remarkably, he missed only three stated meetings, despite having to commute to Norfolk from Raleigh, N.C. where he was living and working for nine years of this 49-year period.

He also was a 50-year member of Norview Royal Arch Chapter No. 62, as well as of Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies and of Sudan Shrine Temple, New Bern, N.C.

He was raised in Atlantic Lodge No. 2 November 18, 1943. He was also past president of the Princess Anne Lions Club.

Mr. Morris was the last surviving charter member of the Norfolk Southern Employees Credit Union.

He is survived by a son, Cecil F.M. Morris III of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Mrs. Christine M. Albert of Norfolk and Mrs. Connie M. Chambers of Raleigh, N.C.; three brothers, James E. Morris of Norfolk, Robert L. Morris of Drakes Branch, and Ernest L. Morris of Estero, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Ardis M. Emanuelson of Virginia Beach and Mrs. Eva M. Gregory of Norfolk; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Morris Jr. Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, where the Masonic rites will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Masonic Home of Virginia, 4101 Nine Miles Road, Richmond, Va. 23223. The family will receive friends at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. today.
