Although I have no children who attend public schools or universities, I willingly help fund these institutions because of benefits I have derived from them and because of their immense contributions to the common good of our commonwealth and our nation.
Full funding of public-broadcasting budgets also is important. In answer to my letter to him, State Sen. Stanley C. Walker writes, ``Grass root support is crucial in this endeavor.''
Those of us who love and cherish public broadcasting in general, and our own outstanding WHRO television and radio stations in particular, must not sit by silently and let legislators undermine this treasure.
I urge all who recognize the importance of public broadcasting to write their legislators to express their views. This issue is too important to ignore, and it is too urgent to delay.
