Joan Johnson McKinley, 72, of Martins Point Road, died Monday, Feb. 13, 1995, at her residence.
She was born in Norfolk and was a homemaker. Mrs. McKinley was a member of the Dunes of Dare Garden Club and of St. Andrew's By-the-Sea Episcopal Church, where she served as a lay eucharistic minister, a member of the Altar Guild and was active in the Episcopal Church Women. She was formerly a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Bloomington, Ill., where she served in a similar capacity. Mrs. McKinley was a graduate of Barnard College in 1943. She was the daughter of the late RADM Jesse Gearing Johnson, U.S. Navy (Retired), and the late Mrs. Elisabeth Harrold Johnson, and the wife of Allan Hugh McKinley of the home.
Besides her husband, Mrs. McKinley is survived by two daughters, Carol Elizabeth Dudley of Norfolk and Alison Harrold Goss of Redwood City, Calif.; a son, Andrew Robertson McKinley of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; two sisters, Suzanne Johnson Mellberg of Greensboro, N.C., and Adrianne Johnson Little of Atlanta, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. in St. Andrew's By-the-Sea, Nags Head, by the Rev. Charles Gill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Presiding Bishops Fund for World Relief through St. Andrew's By-the-Sea or to a charity of one's choice. Twiford's Colony Chapel, Manteo, is in charge of arrangements.
