BEACH POLICE OFFICER HURT IN CAR WRECK

A Virginia Beach police officer was seriously injured Tuesday night when his car wrecked near the intersection of Princess Anne Road and Freight Lane, spokesman Mike Carey said.

The officer, who was not identified, was en route to help pursue a stolen vehicle about 10 p.m. in the Arrowhead section of the city when his car crashed.

It was not immediately clear what caused the wreck.

Carey said the officer was pinned underneath the car and had to be freed.

The suspect in the stolen-car case was eventually caught while fleeing on foot, Carey said.

The officer was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Carey said.
