CLEMENTINE BATTLE

On Monday, February 13, 1995, Mrs. Clementine Battle, 82, 6631 Cumberland Lane, Suffolk, Va., departed this life at Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin, Virginia.

Clementine Battle was born August 28, 1912, to the late George and Fannie Powell Gilliam in Southampton, Virginia. Clementine accepted Christ at an early age and later joined the Laurel Hill United Church of Christ where she served faithfully for many years. In later years she joined Faith Temple Apostolic Church to be of assistance to her sister.

Clementine was a very loving and affectionate person whom God allowed to touch many lives. She married the late Ruben Bugg & the late Pete A. Battle who preceded her in death.

Clementine leaves to cherish her memory one sister, Mrs. Bettie Mae Russell, Albany, NY; four brothers Roosevelt Gilliam, Long Island, NY, Peter Gilliam, Suffolk, Virginia, Roger Gilliam, Princess Anne, Maryland, and Lewis Gilliam, New York; one sister-in-law, Willie Mae Gilliam; four step-children, Alton Boone-Deceased, Mary B. Powell-Portsmouth, Ronnie A. Battle-Va. Beach, Ruby B. Christian-Norfolk; two nieces-Fannie Mae Burke and Cynthia Headley(raised by Clementine); one godchild-Valincia Coleman, and a host of other close relatives and friends.

A wake will be held on Thursday, February 16, 1995 from 7:00 pm until 8:00 at the Peebles Funeral Home, 1016 East Washington Street, Suffolk, Virginia. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 17, 1995, at 12:00 Noon at the Laurel Hill United Church of Christ, South Quay Road, Holland Station, Suffolk, Virginia. The body will be placed in the church at 10:00 AM. Entombment will be in Roosevelt Mem. Park Mausoleum.
