LEWIS J. WELCH SR.

Lewis John Welch, Sr., 68, of the 1000 block of Towanda Road, a retired master metal smith, died Feb. 15, 1995, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Welch was born in Mineral County, W.Va. He retired from N.A.R.F., was a member of Parkway Temple Pentecostal Church, the N.A.R.F. Retirement Assn. and the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the widower of Aileen R. Welch.

Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Marie, and husband, Danny Disharoon, of Virginia Beach; two sons, Lewis John Welch, Jr., of Chesapeake and Jeffery Carl Welch and wife, Cathy, of Washington, N.C.; a stepson, Woodrow Wilson Baker, Jr. and wife Sandra; six grandchildren, Heather Leigh Weidner and husband Stan, Cortney Erin Cain and husband William, Amber Lea Tull and husband William, Brandon Lee Welch, Francis John Welch and Daniel John Disharoon; a great-grandchild, Zachary Allen Tull; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Kellum Funeral Home, Pleasant Hall/Kempsville Chapel, by the Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
