An anthropology professor at Old Dominion University and the neurology chairman of Eastern Virginia Medical School were among 11 professors who received the state's Outstanding Faculty Awards on Friday.
Helen Clark Rountree has taught at ODU for 27 years and has written books on the Powhatan Indians. Dr. Thomas R. Pellegrino of EVMS has also won the medical school's Sir William Osler award for teaching excellence three times.
The winners were selected by a 15-member panel, including members of the State Council of Higher Education, business leaders and college officials. More than 80 faculty members at 33 schools were nominated.
Each of the winners will get $5,000. They will be honored at a dinner in Richmond on Tuesday. by CNB
