Edwin A. Wallace Sr., ``Pop Wallace,'' of the 1400 block of Seaboard Ave., died Feb. 15, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mr. Wallace was born in Boley, Okla., and was retired from the Norfolk Public Schools after 30 years. He was a member of St. Paul CME Church, Norfolk; an umpire for Norfolk Parks & Recreation baseball games for over 20 years; Trustee, Security Officer, Lay Council Sexton, Steward and Bible School teacher; worked with Meals on Wheels Ministry; was a member of the National Rifle Association; life member of National Hunters Association; and an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Wallace; seven daughters, Deloris Freeman, Martha Greggs, Vashti Pittman, all of Norfolk, Lenora Diane Crawford, Cherrie A. Brown, Mary Drayton, Angel Denise Bruce, all of Chesapeake; five sons, Edwin Wallace Jr., John E. Wallace, Michael Wallace, John F. Speller, all of Norfolk, and Jimmy B. Speller of Chesapeake; 35 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a host of other devoted relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Paul CME Church, Norfolk, by the Rev. T.R. McKenny. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. CHESAPEAKE - Ernestine D. Wilkens, 71, of the 900 block of Westgate Court, a retired presser, died Feb. 14, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mrs. Wilkens was born in South Norfolk and retired from Albano Cleaners 15 years ago after 32 years of service. She was a member of First Baptist Church South Hill in Chesapeake, the Pastor's Aid Committee, Women's Fellowship and was a Sunday School member.
Survivors include her husband, William J. Wilkens Sr.; three daughters, Agnes W. Clark, Jacqueline W. Green and Shevelle Wilkens, all of Chesapeake; a son, William J. Wilkens Jr. of Chesapeake; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a cousin, Theresa Goodwin of Philadelphia; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in First Baptist Church South Hill, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Michael R. Toliver. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Virginia Beach. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Pretlow's Funeral Home, and from 10 a.m. to noon Monday at the church. NORFOLK James W. Cherry Jr.
NORFOLK - James William Cherry Jr., 66, of Norfolk and Georgetown, Del., died Feb. 14, 1995 in Georgetown, Del.
Mr. Cherry was born in Norfolk. He was a retired produce manager with Colonial Stores. He was a member of Norview Masonic Lodge No. 113, A.F. & A.M.; Scottish Rite Bodies; Knights of Pythias, Charity Lodge No. 10; and served 22 years in the National Guard. He was the widower of Marie Gordy Cherry.
Survivors include a stepson, Avery Gordy of Kissimmee, Fla.; a sister, Peggy Ann Cherry of Norfolk; two brothers, John C. Cherry and Meredith F. Cherry, both of Virginia Beach; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Viola Frances R. Cherry and James William Cherry Sr.

NORFOLK - Edna Pugh Daniels, 79, of the 5600 block of Tidewater Drive, a retired insurance agent, died Feb. 17, 1995, in a Norfolk hospital.
She was born in Louisa County, Va., was retired from Baldwin Bros. & Taylor Insurance Agency and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Irene Pugh Hamilton of Norfolk and Laura Pugh Harrell and her husband Everett L. Harrell of Virginia Beach; a brother, Cecil B. Pugh Jr. and his wife Margaret Jude Pugh of Elkton, Va.; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

PORTSMOUTH - Russell Ray Jones, 69, of the 3700 block of Cedar Lane, a retired boilermaker foreman, died Feb. 16, 1995, in his residence.
Mr. Jones, a native of Spray, N.C., was retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, Shop (NU)41, after 30 years. He was a veteran of World War II.

PORTSMOUTH - Ermyntrude N. ``Trudie'' Loftin, 50, of the 300 block of McLean St., a nurse, died Feb. 16, 1995, in Maryview Medical Center.
She was born in Kinston, N.C., and was employed with Manning Convalescent Center. She was a member of Guiding Light Apostolic Holiness Church, Portsmouth, and was president of the Youth Department and Choir Director.
Survivors include a daughter, Tonya TeeLisa Fentress and a son, Henry Deangelo, both of Portsmouth; four grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

PORTSMOUTH - Sharon Savage St. George, 45, a radiologic technologist, died Feb. 16, 1995 in a Portsmouth hospital.
She was born in Norfolk and lived most of her life there. She was predeceased by her father, Nathan Savage.
Survivors include her children, Michael Weinstein and Jodi Weinstein, both of Richmond; her mother, Frances Savage; two sisters, Sascha Grunwald of Kingston, Wash., and Anne Lyons of Portsmouth; and two nieces.
By her request, her remains were donated to medical science. A memorial service will be held Sunday, 10 a.m., at the chapel in Ohef Sholom Temple, conducted by Rabbi Lawrence Forman. The family will receive friends at 4222 Race St., Portsmouth.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Ferne A. Barker, 93, died Feb. 16, 1995 in Oakwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia Beach.
A native of Wisconsin, she was the widow of Col. Carleton J. Barker. She had been a resident of Virginia Beach since 1961, when she and her husband moved here from New York after his retirememt from the Army.
Survivors include a niece and her husband, Ruth and Larry Meyer; a niece, Beverly Bansemer; a nephew and his wife, Wayne and Susan Barker; and several great-nephews and nieces.

VIRGINIA BEACH - George J. Brown, Sr., 71, of the 2300 block of Millwood Road, a retired master electrician, died Feb. 16, 1995 in Virginia Beach.
Mr. Brown was born in Boston, Mass. He retired after 35 years with Boston Edison Co.
He is survived by his wife, Jean C. Brown. He is also survived by his children, James, Karen and George, Jr.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Edward ``Ed'' Thomas Doty, 80, of the 4600 block of Atlantic Ave., died Feb. 16, 1995, in Hillhaven Nursing Center.
Mr. Doty was born in New York City and was the widower of Eileen Price Doty. He retired as a consultant for the Cavalier Hotel in 1989 after 38 years. He was a member of Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach; a Coast Guard veteran of World War II; past president of the Virginia Hotel and Motel Association; and a member of the Virginia Beach Ruritan Club; Norfolk Sports Club; and Virginia Sports Hall of Fame. He was an honorary member of the Virginia Beach Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow.

Mrs. Kesner was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a homemaker. She was the widow of Louis E. Kesner.
Mrs. Kesner is survived by her three nephews, Frank R. Ward of Virginia Beach, Townsend Keers of Watertown, Conn., and Charles E. Sleeper Jr. of Pentwater, Mich.; and several grand-nieces and nephews.

VIRGINIA BEACH - Robert E. Miller, 69, of the 5400 block of Mount Jackson Court, died Feb. 17, 1995, in his residence.
Mr. Miller was born in Pennsylvania and was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Norfolk. He retired from the Navy after 22 years and was a civil service employee for 13 years. He was a Navy submarine veteran of World War II and a member of Fleet Reserve Association Branch 60 and a member of Masonic Lodge (NU)230 in Philadelphia.
Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Miller; a daughter, Patricia M. Creekmore and a son, Michael A. Miller, both of Virginia Beach; a sister, Evelyn Baleshea and two brothers, Albert Miller and Ray Miller, all of Easton, Pa.; and three grandchildren.

Mr. Ray was born in Yonkers, N.Y. He retired after 15 years with Mallory Battery Co. as its vice president, was a member of St. Gregory's Catholic Church and was the widower of Catherine Helen Wilson Ray.
Survivors include three sons, David G. Ray of Virginia Beach and Edward A. Ray and John P. Ray, both of Yonkers, N.Y.; a sister, Marian Smith of Yonkers, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

A native of Southampton, she was the widow of Oscar S. Clark Sr. She was the daughter of the late Ben and Esther Britt Joyner, and the sister of the late Benjamin E. Joyner.

WAKEFIELD - Arnold Lee Moore, 76, of Wakefield, died Friday.
He was a native of Clarksburg, Indiana. He owned and operated the Tasty Treat in Wakefield for 21 years, from 1959-1981. He had been a member of the Wakefield Town Council for 16 years.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Aileen L. Moore; three daughters, Betty M. Gay of Wakefield, Kathy D. Frierson of Virginia Beach, and Peggy J. Moore of Fredericksburg; his mother, Pauleen S. Moore of Clarksburg, Indiana; a brother, John R. Moore of Batesville, Indiana; a sister, Sally M. Harford of Clarksburg, Indiana; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his father, George E. Moore and a brother, G. Eugene Moore.

CHERITON - Eva Gregory Doughty, 85, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 1995 at Northampton-Accomack Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox.
Mrs. Doughty was born and reared in Cheriton, daughter of the late George and Lillie Widgeon Gregory. She was the wife of the late Andrew G. Doughty and a member of Cheriton United Methodist Church and its Rainbow Class.
Survivors include two daughters, Eula Mae D. Parks of Harborton and Lillie D. Caporella of Cheriton; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home, Cape Charles, by the Rev. Clarence Bowen and the Rev. Julius Strock. Burial will be in Cape Charles Cemetery. The family will join friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
NORTH CAROLINA Cyrus Caleb Aydlett
ELIZABETH CITY - Cyrus Caleb Aydlett, 85, of the 1000 block of Rivershore Road, a Realtor and land developer, died in the Albemarle Hospital Thursday afternoon.
He was a native of Currituck County. Mr. Aydlett was the son of the late Nathaniel Taylor and Lydia Duncan Aydlett and the husband of Augusta Walker Aydlett. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post (NU)6060. Mr. Aydlett was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Coast Guard at the Normandy, Southern France, Iwo Jima and Okinawa invasions. He earned a rank of Lt. Senior Grade.
Besides his wife, Mr. Aydlett is survived by three daughters, Dr. Lydia Aydlett of Chapel Hill, Rebecca Aydlett Evans of Manteo and Virginia Aydlett Teachey of Wilmington; two sisters, Naomi A. Chesson of Elizabeth City and Idella A. Harrelson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two brothers, Sanford P. Aydlett and W. Gaither Aydlett, both of Elizabeth City; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Church St., by Dr. Walter Harrelson and the Rev. David Moehing. GATESVILLE - Mary Wiggins Turner, 103, of Route 1, ``Sunnyside Manor'', died early Friday, Feb. 17, 1995 in her home.
Mrs. Turner was born in Gates County. The daughter of the late William Samuel and Mrs. Sarah Cordelia Carter Wiggins, she was the wife of the late O.C. Turner Sr. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Miller Turner, and her son, Ensign O.C. Turner Jr.
The oldest living graduate and member of the board of alumni of Chowan College in Murfreesboro, she had formerly served on its Board of Trustees. A former schoolteacher, she had also served as the Postmistress in Gatesville. She had formerly owned and operated a hardware and farm implement business in Gatesville. A member of Gatesville Baptist Church, she had taught Sunday School for 26 years. She was a charter and life member of Gates County Chapter No. 335, the Order of the Eastern Star.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Gatesville Baptist Church by the Rev. Ric Durham, the Rev. Gene Asbill and Dr. Jerome Jackson. Burial will follow in the Turner Family Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the home, where Mrs. Turner will lie in state. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is handling arrangements.

EDENTON - Sarah Elizabeth Spivey Wiggins, 79, died Feb. 16, 1995, in Albemarle Hospital.
A native of Gates Co., N.C., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Ella Earley Spivey and the widow of Robert Graham Wiggins. Mrs. Wiggins formerly worked in the lunchrooms of Chuckatuck and Kilby Shores Elementary School in Suffolk.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary E. Smith of Va. Beach; four sons, Robert A. Wiggins of Edenton, Joe R. Wiggins of Carrollton, Va., Charlie E. Wiggins of Corapeake, N.C., Gerald W. Wiggins of Knotts Island, N.C.; one sister, Hazel Bass of Hobbsville, N.C.; twelve grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 P.M. at the grave side in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, Va., by Dr. Alan Felumlee. The family will receive friends in the R.W. Baker & Co. GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Hubert Dalton Beach, 83, formerly of Menola, N.C., died Feb. 17, 1995.
Hubert Beach, known to many as Joe, was born in Martin County, N.C., and was a member of Menola Baptist Church. He was the retired owner of Beach's Seed Store in Ahoskie and Beach's Greenhouse in Menola. He was the widower of Ethel Whitehurst Beach. Until recent years, Mr. Beach was very active in his church and community activities. He had a talent for growing beautiful plants and enjoyed sharing the bounty of his gardens.
Mr. Beach is survived by two daughters, Betty Smith and her husband, Harry, of Gainesville and Peggy Campbell and her husband, Wayne, of Raleigh, N.C.; a sister, Margaret Whitley of Carthage, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Shelly Patton of Newark, Del., Susan and Steven Smith, both of Gainesville, Jennifer Howell of Richmond, Va., Lisa Nelms of Angier, N.C., Jennifer Stines and Jim Campbell, both of Asheboro, N.C., five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - Nell Ayers Edwards, 98, of the 500 block of Cranes Way, died Feb. 15, 1995, in Winter Park, Fla.
Mrs. Edwards was born in Bakersville, N.C., and was the widow of Luman B. Edwards. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Altamonte Springs. Mrs. Edwards was a former longtime resident of Chesapeake and former member of Southside Baptist Church, Chesapeake.
Survivors include two daughters, Faye Ashby and Josephine Perdue, both of Altamonte Springs; two sons, Troy Edwards of Altamonte Springs and Weaver Edwards of Suffolk; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Southside Baptist Church by the Rev. Willis Switzer. Burial will be in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Graham Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, on Sunday from 4 to 5 p.m. and at 1540 Bainbridge Blvd., Chesapeake, at all other times.
