KINDNESS ERASES SOME SCARS LEFT BY ATTACK

I am the woman who was attacked by a person with an ax outside the Food Lion at the Towne Point Shopping Center on Jan. 13.

At the time, I wondered why this stranger was doing this to me and why one human could do this to any human. While I was in the intensive care unit I remember asking family and doctors why did this person do this to me. No one could give me an answer.

I guess I will never know. But I know it diminished my faith in the human race.

When I could receive visitors and calls, there was an outpouring of support from people I didn't even know. People called me with their prayers. This let me know there are still good people and this is helping to restore my faith in the human race.

I would like to thank everyone for their well wishes, support and prayers. I would like to thank the staff, doctors, nurses and everyone at Maryview Medical Center, especially Dr. John Grant, my surgeon. I want to thank the Portsmouth Police Department for arresting my assailant so quickly, and a special thank you to the people who came to my aid in the parking lot after the attack. I may be alive today because of these people.

I do worry about the man who had a cry for political correctness over the use of the word cyclist (Virginian-Pilot/Ledger Star, Jan. 26). I would think he would be more concerned about the violent act that was committed than if the correct word was used.

Again, thank you to all who were concerned about me.
