HENRY G. ELLIS

Henry G. Ellis, 86, recently of 49th Street. He was born in New York City June 3, 1908. After graduating from Springfield College and the University of Geneva, Switzerland, he was the General Executive of YMCA's in Utica, N.Y., the Hawaiian Islands, and Rochester, N.Y.

Mr. Ellis was responsible for the establishment of many YMCA facilities and camps and internationally active as a consultant to the YMCA's of Jerusalem and Lima, Peru.

Mr. Ellis received Springfield Colleges' Tarbell Medallion award, the college's highest honor, given annually to the most outstanding alumnus. After 40 years in the YMCA, he became a consultant for the Bureau Beaver Company, conducting capital development campaigns throughout the Southeastern U.S. Since living in Virginia Beach the last 15 years, he has been a leader and volunteer at the United Way, Virginia Beach Police Dept., and the Bureau of Mental Health Services.

Mr. Ellis was known as an accomplished musician and photographer, providing piano accompaniment for numerous groups and occasions.

Survivors include his wife, Florence Dorn Ellis, a son, Douglas D. Ellis and his wife Ellen W. Ellis of Virginia Beach, VA.; a sister, Mrs. Andrew Robards of San Diego, Ca.; and 2 grandchildren Douglas D. Ellis, Jr. and Cary W. Ellis of Virginia Beach, VA.

A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date. Burial will be in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Springfield College in Springfield, Mass.

H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel will be handling the arrangements.
