CRIME LINE

Local police are asking public assistance in solving these cases:

VIRGINIA BEACH

Starting in November, police began to receive reports of women's underwear being stolen from laundry rooms in the Mayfair Apartment Complex on Newtown Arch.

Since then, five apartments have been broken into. In each case, women's underwear has been taken. Also stolen were a chrome, 9mm Ruger handgun, compact discs and jewelry.

The suspect is described as a white male, in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a chunky build and sandy brown, greasy-looking hair.

NORFOLK

On Friday, Feb. 10, at 3:20 p.m., Kevin Gallegos of Hampton, a delivery driver for H.B. Express stopped to use a pay phone at the 7-Eleven store in the 4000 block of Hampton Blvd.

While Gallegos, 29, was on the phone, another man approached and shot him.

Gallegos died a short time later at a local hospital.

The suspect is described as black, 6 feet tall and was wearing a green, hooded jacket and black pants. He was last seen walking east on 40th Street.

Investigators are asking the 911 caller who telephoned at 8 a.m. Monday to call them back as soon as possible.

CHESAPEAKE

On Jan. 19, about 8:30 p.m., a man entered the McDonald's restaurant in the 800 block of Volvo Parkway and threatened the clerk with a knife. He then left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

On Jan. 20, about 10:30 p.m., the same suspect robbed the Wendy's restaurant in the 1600 block of S. Military Highway. Again, he threatened the clerk with a knife.

The suspect is described as white, 15 to 17 years old, of medium height, 130 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

PORTSMOUTH

There have been 12 armed robberies to local businesses since January.

The most recent occurred Feb. 6 about 11:30 p.m. when a man with a handgun entered the Quick Shop convenience store in the 3500 block of Portsmouth Blvd.

The man fired one shot into the ceiling and demanded money from the register.

He then fired another shot into a freezer.

After taking the money, the suspect fled and was last seen running down Main Street, toward Cavalier Boulevard.

The suspect is described as black, in his late teens, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 140 pounds and was wearing all black. ILLUSTRATION: Drawings

The police released a sketch of the man who robbed two fast food

restaurants in Chesapeake.

Police say this man stole women's underwear from laundry rooms in

the Mayfair Apartment Complex.
