Betsy Mason, left, chairwoman of Norfolk Collegiate's board of

trustees, gives a thumbs-up sign to the demolition of Midfield

Apartments behind Collegiate's upper school on Granby Street. The

school raised $3.4 million to buy the land, tear down the apartments

and build athletic fields and a parking lot. Tenants at Midfield

Apartments were notified of the plans in August.
