The Virginian-Pilot
THE LEDGER-STAR
SERVING SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA AND NORTHEASTERN NORTH CAROLINA
Front: Sunday, February 19, 1995
- CORRECTION/CLARIFICATION:
*****************************************************************
Three light helicopter anti-submarine squadrons - HSL 30, 32 and
24 - were erroneously included in a list Sunday of the region's top
military commands and units. The three squadrons were previously
decomissioned. Also, the Naval Exchange Command is in Virginia Beach
but not at Fort Story, as noted on the list.
Correction published Wednesday, February 22, 1995.

THE MILITARY IN HAMPTON ROADS
- WHY IT'S CALLED BRAC
- MILITARY, CONGRESS, BUSINESS REPRESENTED AMONG NOMINEES FOR COMMISSION
- HAMPTON ROADS, HOPING FOR BEST, BRACES FOR WORST
NO ONE IS EXPECTING A MAJOR HIT, BUT JUST IN CASE, LOCAL OFFICIALS ARE ARMING
WITH INFORMATION TO JUSTIFY LOCAL BASES' MILITARY AND ECONOMIC VALUE.
- NEWSPAPER HAS DUTY TO INFORM CITIZENS OF IMPACT OF POTENTIAL BASE CLOSINGS
- A REPUBLICAN STAR RISES IN VIRGINIA
- SMALL CHANGES, BIG WORRIES
PROGNOSIS: THE SCALPEL OF REALIGNMENT POSES A GREATER THREAT THAN THE AX OF
BASE CLOSINGS.
