The Lost Colony, America's longest-running outdoor drama, will hold auditions for cast and crew on Sunday, March 5, at the administrative offices on Roanoke Island.
Auditions are open to actors, singers, dancers, and technical crew members who are interested in roles for the 1995 summer season.
Auditions for dancers begin at 10 a.m. with a movement class. At noon, actors and singers should report with a prepared one- to two-minute monologue or musical selection. Children will be called at 2:30 p.m.; technical interviews will begin at 3 p.m.
Lost Colony cast and crew hopefuls also will be able to audition at the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Norfolk between March 2 and 4, and at the Institute of Outdoor Drama in Chapel Hill on March 18.
The Lost Colony employs one of the largest outdoor drama casts in the southeast, with about 125 cast and crew members each summer. Salaries start at $140 per week. Company housing, within walking distance of the theatre, is available for a nominal weekly fee. Rehearsals begin May 21. The show opens June 7 and plays nightly except Saturday through Aug. 25.
The Lost Colony is Paul Green's symphonic dramatization of the first English settlement in North America - and its mysterious disappearance. The outdoor drama has been performed since 1937 in historic Waterside Theatre, near Manteo.
The Lost Colony administrative building is located in Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, on the north end of Roanoke Island. For details, call (919) 473-2127 during normal business hours. by CNB
