HORWOOD R. WHITEHEAD

Horwood Reese Whitehead, 82, of Biltmore Drive in Virginia Beach, the retired owner of H.R. Whitehead Fuel and Oil Company, died Feb. 21, 1995, in his residence.

Mr. Whitehead was born in Courtland, Va., and was a longtime resident of Norfolk. He was a member of the Christian Temple for over 50 years and served as a Deacon and a member of the Official Board. At the time of his death, Mr. Whitehead was a member of Bayview United Church of Christ. He was a volunteer for Sentara Mobile Meals for a number of years and received many awards for his services.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Genevieve D. Whitehead; a stepdaughter, Geraldine Buck of Virginia Beach; several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Richard Prince. The family will receive friends at their home after the graveside services. Memorial donations may be made to the Bayview United Church of Christ at 1051 East Bayview Blvd. in Norfolk, or to the charity of the donor's choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements.
