EMMA J. SWEATT

Emma J. ``Sis'' Sweatt, 72, of the 500 block of Yorktown Ave., died Feb. 19, 1995, in Maryview Medical Center.

Mrs. Sweatt was born in Handsom, Va., and was the widow of Thomas Sweatt. She was a member of Third Baptist Church in Portsmouth; a member and teacher of the Tulie Peete Bible Class; a member of the Jolly Workers Club; 50-year member of the Gospel Choir; and member of the Widows Club and the A.B. Mason Missionary Society. She was also a member of Queen of Sheba Chapter (NU)28 Order of the Eastern Star and member and mistress of ceremony of Victory Chapter (NU)486 United Order of Tents.

Survivors include three daughters, Blanche J. Robinson of Virginia Beach and Emma J. Johnson and Debra Sweatt, both of Portsmouth; two sons, William H. Jones of Portsmouth and James L. Sweatt of Norfolk; 14 grandchildren, including a special grandson, Marcus Sweatt; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; an aunt; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; a son-in-law, Jack M. Robinson Jr.; and a daughter-in-law, Hazel Sweatt.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Joe B. Fleming. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Friday in Corprew Funeral Home. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday. ILLUSTRATION: Personal Photo
