ALEXANDRA ORCHARD SIMMONS

Alexandra Orchard Simmons, 92, of Southampton Road, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 1995, at the East Pavilion in Franklin.

Mrs. Simmons was a native of Danville, Va., and was the widow of Leland P. Simmons. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Laura Ferrell Orchard. She was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College, Lynchburg, Va., and was a former teacher at the Carrsville, Va., School. She was a member of the High Street United Methodist Church, its Sarah Vaughan Cutchins Circle, and a former teacher of the Friendship Bible Class. Mrs. Simmons was a charter member of the Franklin Literary Club and a former member of the Southampton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She was the first chairman of the Southampton County Welfare Board.

Survivors include four cousins, Barbara M. Shields, Sarah M. Harrison and Harry C. Marshall Jr., all of Danville, Va., and Jean Reynolds of Wilson, N.C.; two nieces, Willie Simmons Taylor of Como, N.C., and Shirley Simmons Snead of Franklin; four nephews, Wallace R. Simmons of Chester, W. Maurice Simmons of Sedley, Leslie W. Simmons Jr. and Leland A. Simmons, both of Virginia Beach; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Orchard of Martinsville and Thelma T. Simmons of Norfolk; and one god-son, Paul D. Price of Annandale.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1995, in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, by the Rev. David Erickson. Burial will be in Poplar Spring Cemetery.
