TWO HURT IN CRASH

Two people were injured in a head-on collision Tuesday afternoon on Everets Road. The accident happened about 1:10 p.m., near the intersection of Kirk Road.

Kathleen A. Kirk, 39, of the 800 block of Kirk Road, was in stable condition in the emergency room of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where she was being assessed for a knee injury, a hospital spokeswoman said. She was to be admitted Tuesday night, another spokeswoman said.

Lynette M. Morrill, 22, of the 4000 block of Edinburgh Court, was treated in the emergency room at Obici Hospital, and later released.

Morrill, who was driving a 1987 Dodge pickup, was charged with reckless driving.

Police said Morrill leaned over to pick up something inside her vehicle and the truck drifted into the opposite lane, striking Kirk's 1992 Mazda station wagon head-on and knocking it into a guard rail. Both vehicles were total losses.

Both victims were pinned in their vehicles.

Morrill was taken by Nansemond-Suffolk Rescue Squad to the Suffolk hospital. Kirk was flown by Nightingale emergency helicopter to Norfolk.
