JUDGES BY DISTRICT

Northeastern North Carolina's delegation in the House of Representatives gave nearly unanimous support to a measure that calls for election of Superior Court judges by districts.

The House voted 95-23 late Monday night to give tentative approval to the bill that would change the election of Superior Court judges from statewide contests to district elections.

The House gave final approval to the measure Tuesday.

Most Northeastern North Carolina legislators supported the measure during Monday's roll call vote.

Voting in favor of district elections for Superior Court judges were Reps. William T. Culpepper III, D-Chowan; Zeno Edwards, R-Beaufort; L.W. Locke, D-Halifax; W.C. ``Bill'' Owens Jr., D-Pasquotank; and R. Eugene Rogers, D-Martin.
