Levi Galloway, 65, of the 200 block of College Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 1995, in Maryview Medical Center, Portsmouth.
A native of Mount Airy, N.C., he was the son of the late Dealie M. and James Galloway. He retired from the Franklin city school system. Mr. Galloway was a member of First Baptist Church; chairman of the Trustee Board; member of the Board of Finance; Christian Board of Education; assistant Adult Sunday School teacher; and member of the Senior Choir. He was also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and its Intake Committee. He was former vice mayor of the City of Franklin and former City Council member; member of the Citizens Advisory Committee and fellow member of Outstanding Committees and Organizations. Mr. Galloway was a former teacher at Riverview High School in Southampton County; former assistant principal of Franklin High School; former principal of Hayden Junior High School; and former director of Adult Education for the Franklin city school system. He was a proprietor of Rose Realty Associates and a general contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Rose P. Galloway; a son, Joey D. Galloway; a daughter, Freida H. Idisi; a daughter-in-law, Paula F. Galloway; a son-in-law, Chief Humphrey I.S. Idisi; four brothers; three sisters; and two grandchildren, Jeannine and Jeanise Galloway.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, Hall Street, by the Rev. Henry Blunt. Burial will be in Southampton Memorial Park. The body will be viewed from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Elvin Vaughan Funeral Home. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
