Marion Winstead, 94, of the 500 block of Fenchurch St., died Sunday, Feb. 19, 1995, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
Mr. Winstead was retired from the Norfolk Naval Supply Center Building (NU)143. He served 36 years with the Center. He was one of the oldest original tenants of Tidewater Gardens. He was married to the late Annie Winstead, followed by the late Eunice V. Winstead.
He is survived by a brother, Graham Winstead of Wilson, N.C.; a sister, Louise Dowdy of Philadelphia, Pa.; 11 daughters, Mrs. Ollie Mae Pope and Marian Byrum, both of Wilson, Gracie Beklin of Philadelphia and locally, Yvonne K. Latimer, Fannie Etheridge, Sarah M. Hargraves, Eunice Winstead, Nanette Elliott, Beverly Winstead, LaBarbara Sheed and Vanessa Winstead. He is survived by five sons, Eli Winstead of Wilson, Jason Winstead of Wilmington, Del., Robert L. Winstead and William D. Winstead, both of Norristown, Pa., and Miles Winstead of Norfolk. He is also survived by one brother-in-law; one sister-in-law; seven sons-in-law; four daughters-in-law; 47 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at Christ Pentecostal Church on Wood Street with the Rev. Moses Davis officiating. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Cemetery with Metropolitan Funeral Service in charge. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today. The family will gather at the home of the late Mr. Winstead, 524 Fenchurch St., and will assemble there for services. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
