Realizing that state Sen. Clarence A. ``Clancy'' Holland, D-Virginia Beach, has been the chief impediment to removing the Route 44 tolls and, as a result, the person most responsible for costing his Virginia Beach constituents millions of dollars in quarters and dimes over the years, it was nice to see that he recently reversed his position; albeit, his sudden charge of heart on this issue seems to have less to do with wanting to save his Virginia Beach constituents money and more to do with attempting to take credit for what is surely the inevitable - the elimination of all tolls on Route 44 by the governor.
I hope voters will remember Senator Holland's sincerity during his next re-election effort. I know I will.
