The Rev. James Lewis Clements, 84, a retired United Methodist minister, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1995.
Rev. Clements was a graduate of Botetourt High School. He attended William and Mary College for two years before transfering to Randloph-Macon College in Ashland, Va., where he graduated in 1937. He attended Union Theological Seminary in Richmond and held pastorates in Richmond, Danville, King William, Madision County, Hampton, Petersburg, South Hill and Colonial Heights, where he retired in 1980. He continued to preach at the Trinity-Providence charge in South Hill and participated in South Hill Christian Church. He pastored in Colonial Christian Church in Colonial Heights. Rev. Clements was a 33rd degree Mason and member of Order of the Eastern Star Loyalty Chapter (NU)48 in South Hill.
Rev. Clements is survived by his wife, Mrs. Blanche K. Clements; three daughters, Carolyn C. Madures of Morehead City, N.C., Rosalyn C. Thompson of South Hill and Scarlett C. Seay of Petersburg; a son, James L. Clements II, of Smithfield; four sisters, Elizabeth Clements and Bertie Hall, both of Gloucester, Va., Minnie Moore and Myrtle Dawson, both of Grafton, Va.; three brothers, Irvin, Richard and Malcolm Clements, all of Gloucester; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in South Hill United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Crestview Memorial Park with Masonic rites. The family received friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Crowder-Hite-Crews Funeral Home.
