Barner P. Russell Sr., of the 500 block of E. Liberty St., died Feb. 21, 1995, in a local hospital.
Mr. Russell was born in Scranton, N.C. He retired from transportation at Fort Story after 22 years, was a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, a deacon, a member of Raphael Lodge (NU)162 P.H.A. and a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Feddie Russell; a daughter, Esther Keeling; and a son, Bonner Russell Jr., all of Norfolk; four brothers, Leo Russell of Norfolk, John T. Russell and Arnell Russell, both of Scranton, N.C., and Wilbert Russell of Washington, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; several nephews and nieces; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Minnie Russell and Nathaniel Russell.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 718 Tidewater Drive, Norfolk, by the Rev. Thomas Venable. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Metropolitan Funeral Service is handling arrangements. The body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. Saturday. Family and friends will assemble at 555 E. Liberty St., Norfolk, at noon Saturday for funeral processional to the church.
