FIVE SUSPECTS CHARGED IN TWO NORFOLK SLAYINGS

Norfolk police on Friday reported arrests in two separate homicides. The suspects included two juveniles.

Three Norfolk residents were arrested early Friday and charged with the slaying of a Hampton man on Feb. 10, spokesman Larry Hill said.

Kevin Gallegos, 29, of Hampton was talking on a pay phone outside a convenience store in the 4000 block of Hampton Blvd. when he was shot. He died at a Norfolk hospital.

Hill said Gerald Crandle, 20, of the 1200 block of W. 40th St., was arrested at the Police Operations Center at 1 a.m. and charged with murder and use of a firearm. Ocie Wilson, 23, of the 2500 block of Lafayette Blvd. was arrested at the same time and charged also with murder and use of a firearm, Hill said.

At 4:30 a.m., police arrested a 16-year-old in the 1000 block of Galt St. The teen, of the 1300 block of W. 40th St., was charged with capital murder, attempted robbery and two counts of use of a firearm, Hill said. He was not identified because of his age.

Also early Friday, police arrested another 16-year-old in the 2400 block of Cromwell Road. He was charged with murder and the use of a firearm in connection with the slaying of David Muse, 53, on Feb. 17 in the 2000 block of East Ocean View Ave.

The 16-year-old, who was not identified, and 19-year-old Lamont Jacob Hines, of Virginia Beach, were both charged with armed burglary with the intent to commit robbery, three counts of robbery, two counts of attempted robbery and five counts of use of a firearm. All of the alleged offenses occurred in the 2000 block of East Ocean View Ave., Hill said.

Hines also was charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, Hill said. MEMO: murder shooting by CNB
