LADY MONARCHS' LACROSSE TEAM HAS HIGHER GOALS FOR '95

Old Dominion women's lacrosse coach Sue Stahl hopes this is the year that her team takes its play to the next level.

Under Stahl's four-year regime the Lady Monarchs have progressed, going from 2-11 her first year to 8-11 in her second, 8-7 in her third and 9-8 last season.

The team finished eighth in last season's final national poll.

This year's team, ranked ninth in the preseason national poll, will look to 1994 second-team All-American Ann Windover, a junior. She led the nation for much of last year in scoring, and will provide the majority of the offense. Last season she netted 50 goals with 16 assists for 66 points.

Along with Windover, the Lady Monarchs will look to seniors Amy Duerr, Ericka Davidheiser and Jenn Karr for scoring.

In the net, senior Heather Walden and freshman Andie Stein will battle it out. Some of the defenders to watch will be sophomore Stacia Hepburn, seniors Lori Hansford and Pamela Moyer.

The team will face another tough schedule, as it will take on nationally ranked teams like Penn State, Maryland, Virginia, James Madison and Delaware.

``We are competitors and we aren't complacent,'' Stahl said. ``We are going to have to stand up to our competition and take that next step. I believe that our girls are ready to do that.''

The Lady Monarchs begin the season with an exhibition Play Day at William and Mary March 4, but the season officially opens on March 9 at home against Penn State.
