Sandra ``Sandi'' Elaine McPherson, 47, died Sunday, Feb. 26, 1995 at home.
She was a native of Binghamton, N.Y., and a Peninsula native for 24 years.
She was employed by the City of Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation Department as the center coordinator of the Great Neck Community Recreation Center. Previously, she served as director of James City County's Parks and Recreation Department and assistant director of Hampton's Recreation Department.
Sandi was a graduate of Radford College and Virginia Commonwealth University. She was a member and former board member of the VA Recreation & Parks Society. In 1994, she received the Woman of Distinction Award for the Girl Scouts Council of Colonial Coast.
Sandi is survived by her parents, Alexander and Rachel McPherson of Cleveland, Ga.; two sisters, Deborah McPherson of Fairport, N.Y., and Val McClure and her husband Jim of Dahlonega, Ga., and their children, William, Katie and Jake; and her family of very special friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 1995, in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hampton. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the service. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Sandi McPherson Memorial Scholarship Fund at Radford University, P.0. Box 6915, Radford, Va. 24142. Peninsula Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
