Miss Ernestine Joy DeLoatche, 80, a lifelong resident of Boykins, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1995, in her home.
Miss DeLoatche was the daughter of the late Ernest and Esther Wood DeLoatche. She graduated from East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for H.O. Carlton Oil Company and retired from Elmo Rock Oil Co. in Boykins. She was a member of the Boykins Baptist Church and the LLL Sunday School Class of the church. She was a member of the Tarrara Woman's Club.
She is survived by several cousins, including Garnet B. White, Evelyn D. Brett, both of Boykins, Sallie W. Acai of Littleton, N.C., Patrician G. White and Madison B. Drewry, both of Boykins, Mark W. Edwards of Norfolk, Richard S. Edwards Jr. of Newsoms, Roderick W. Edwards of Boykins and Augustus E. Wood of Miami.
A graveside funeral service will be held in Severn Cemetery, Severn, N.C., at 4 p.m. March 2, by the Rev. Benjamin E. Thomas. The family will receive friends and relatives at Purviance Funeral Home, Boykins Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today and at other times at her residence at 32287 S. Main St. in Boykins. Memorial donations may be made to the Boykins Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad or to the Boykins Baptist Church.
