School Superintendent Jane T. York recommended a $28.9 million 1995-96 operating budget Tuesday that would cost the county government 6.3 percent more than the current budget.
The figure does not include debt service for new schools built in the county over the past two years. With that amount added, the total increase comes to $1.5 million, or 11.5 percent.
The budget adds seven new teachers and at least four new school buses to accommodate an anticipated enrollment increase over the next two years of about 200.
``People tell me every day that our estimates on enrollment are very, very conservative,'' York said. ``We know people are moving into the county.''
The budget also includes planning funds and the purchase of land for another new elementary school in Windsor.
The School Board will hold a public hearing on the budget at 7 p.m. March 9 at the Isle of Wight Courthouse. by CNB
