Beginning this week, a once-secret nuclear guided-missile school in Virginia Beach opens its doors to Russian inspectors as the United States and its former adversary begin measuring each other's nuclear capabilities.
The open-door policy at the Dam Neck Fleet Combat Training Center is designed to demonstrate that the installation no longer contains or supports any weapon system limited by the Strategic Arms Limitation Treaty, signed in 1991.
Dam Neck is among 35 sites in the United States and 65 in the former republics of the Soviet Union where nuclear weapons were kept. The sites are now open to inspection under the treaty. by CNB
