Dare County authorities are investigating the possibility that a house fire in Stumpy Point was intentionally set.
Volunteer firefighters from Manns Harbor and Stumpy Point responded to the blaze at 7:12 p.m. Monday night at the Bayview Drive home of David and Anita McCuiston. The fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damage. No one was home at the time.
Dare County Fire Marshal Doug Remaley said the origin of the fire is ``suspicious.''
``As best we can determine, the fire started in a wall in an upstairs back bedroom and spread to the attic,'' Remaley said. ``There were no electrical outlets or heating sources in the area where the fire started.''
Remaley commended local firefighters, who battled the blaze for three hours.
``The Stumpy Point and Manns Harbor Fire Departments did an excellent job,'' he said.
Remaley said his office and the Dare County Sheriff's Department are investigating. by CNB
