LEGENDS CAPTURES CHARITY BOWL TITLE

By the edge of Calvin Freeman's toe, the Legends are the Charity Bowl Spring Flag Football champion.

The Legends nipped Ray's Pizza, 35-34, in Sunday's championship game. Sixteen teams competed in the daylong tournament at four area fields with the Legends posting four victories en route to the title.

Freeman kicked five extra points, in addition to scoring two touchdowns for the Legends in the finale. He was chosen as the tournament's most valuable player.

Maurice Wiggins set up Freeman's game-winning conversion with a touchdown in the closing seconds.

In the semifinal round, the Legends topped Hosses Dogs, 19-16, while Ray's Pizza defeated 103 JAMZ, 34-22.

In first-round games, the Legends blasted Fort Eustis, 41-7; Ray's Pizza edged the Bulldogs, 23-22; Hosses Dogs blanked Tip Corprew, 7-0; Predators beat Canes, 34-6; Posse downed USS Longbeach, 21-7; the Hawks nipped the Steelers, 23-19; P-Town Boys ousted Still Is, 7-0; and 103 JAMZ whipped Langley Air Force Base, 10-7.

In the quarterfinals, 103 JAMZ bested P-Town, 26-6; Hosses Dogs topped the Predators, 19-13; Ray's Pizza thumped the Hawks, 30-0; and the Legends downed Posse, 23-21.

James Starks of Ray's Pizza was chosen as the top offensive player in the tournament. Top defensive honors went to Glenn Williams of Legends. by CNB
