Mrs. Magalene Gallop Smith, 63, of the 3500 block of N. Ingleside Drive, a retired merchant seaman, died March 1, 1995, in her residence, peacefully with family near.
Mrs. Smith, a native of Harbinger, N.C., was a member of Pleasant Branch Baptist Church in Powells Point, N.C. She was retired from the National Maritime Union.
Survivors include a daughter, Bessie Peet of Norfolk; her mother, Luala Dough, and father, Macie Dough of Norfolk; grandsons, Carmus Peet, Carus Peet and Canus Peet; a devoted son-in-law, William Peet Jr.; an aunt, Almetta G. Pledger; an uncle, Nathan Gallop; and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Luke's Holiness Church, Norfolk, by Pastor Allie Mae Hall. Burial will be in Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, Powells Point, N.C. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Riddick Funeral Service, Norfolk. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today. The procession to the cemetery will leave at 12:15 p.m.
