A Massachusetts man was killed and two shipmates were injured late Wednesday when the car they were in overturned six times after hitting a concrete median wall on Interstate 64.

The accident happened about 9:55 p.m. in the HOV lanes of the interstate, about a half-mile east of Norview Ave.

Michael P. Haugh, 21, of Pembroke, Mass., was thrown from the 1989 Toyota Supra he was driving when it crashed into the barrier at high speed.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two passengers, Malcolm Harmon, 24, and Andre De La Rosa, 21, were taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries. Their hometowns were not released.

All three men were assigned to the guided-missile destroyer Scott, based at the Norfolk Naval Base.

State police said excessive speed and alcohol were involved and that Haugh was not wearing a seat belt.
