Police responding to what initially appeared to be a serious traffic accident instead found themselves investigating a murder Thursday night.
At 7:57 p.m., police and rescue personnel were called to the 800 block of Denison Ave., where a car had slammed into a parked car. The driver appeared to be critically injured. When paramedics started working on the victim, however, they discovered that he had been shot. He was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he died a short time later.
The identity of the victim, a Norfolk resident, was being withheld until relatives could be notified.
Police said the car the man was driving was a brown, older model station wagon. The victim was described as 32 and white.
Police have no witnesses or suspects in the incident and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Line at 441-5100.
