B. Gene Johnson, 65, of the 2900 block of Mars St., died March 2, 1995, in Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Mr. Johnson was born in Washington, N.C., and was retired as a supervisor for the Virginia Beach Division of Virginia Power after 36 years. He was a member of Knotts Island Baptist Church; Princess Anne Lodge (NU)25 AF & AM; Norfolk Scottish Rite Bodies; Khedive Temple AAONMS and Khedive Hillbillies. He served as treasurer emeritus of the Virginia Beach Shrine Club; past president of the Knotts Island Ruritan Club and past secretary of Knotts Island Ruritan Club; and lieutenant governor and governor of Ruritan National. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army, Paratroopers, 82nd Airborne Division. Gene was also a frequent transport driver to the Shrine Hospital in Greenville, S.C.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi E. Johnson; a daughter, Pam C. May and husband, Craig of Chesapeake; two sons, Danyy G. and Steve L. Johnson of Virginia Beach; a sister, Helen Cray of Virginia Beach; a brother, Wilson G. Johnson of Richmond; and four grandchildren, Mark, Lori, Kerri and Kelsey.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Kellum Funeral Home, Bonney Road Chapel, by the Rev. Jack Sauls, followed with Masonic rites. Burial will be private at a later date. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled and Burned Children, c/o Khedive Temple, 645 Woodlake Drive, Chesapeake, Va. 23320.
