LICENSE TAG PROCLAIMS BEAUTY OF BUTTERFLIES

YOU CAN PROCLAIM your love of butterflies for all the world to see with a state license plate featuring the Tiger Swallowtail butterfly, Virginia's state insect.

The Butterfly Society of Virginia is taking orders for the plates, and the state will begin issuing them when the society receives 150 orders.

To order the special plate, send a Division of Motor Vehicles application form and a check for $10 made out to The Butterfly Society of Virginia to: Butterfly Society of Virginia Treasurer, 276 S. Parliament Drive, Virginia Beach, Va. 23462. To personalize your plate, include another $10 in your check.

When the society has 150 orders, it will send a check and the applications to DMV. The DMV will cancel old plates and mail the new ones, along with a set of decals duplicating ones on the old plates. If your current plate expires before the butterfly plate is available, renew as usual.

For information, call 499-0333 or 423-1682. The society, which does not receive money from the plates, will send you the required DMV form if you cannot obtain one. FEED THE BULBS

This is the time to fertilize daffodils, crocus, tulips and hyacinths, just as their foliage appears above ground. Use 8-8-8, 10-10-10 or a special bulb fertilizer. Scatter it around the foliage but not on it. If you get fertilizer on the foliage, spray it off with water at once. They need no other fertilization until fall. ILLUSTRATION: Color photo
