Gov. Jim Hunt has proclaimed the week of March 5-11 as ``Severe Weather Awareness Week'' in North Carolina. This week is set aside annually to focus attention on the severe weather hazards that are common to the state, such as tornadoes, thunderstorms, lightning and floods.
Tornadoes pose the most serious threat to North Carolinians. What would you do if a tornado threatened Dare County? Do you have an emergency kit prepared in the event that you must leave your home in a hurry?
By answering these and other simple questions, you can greatly improve your chances of surviving a tornado or other natural disaster. The North Carolina Division of Emergency Management and the Dare County Emergency Management Department urge all North Carolinians to take part in the statewide tornado drill on the morning of March 8 to learn as much as possible about tornadoes.
The Dare County Emergency Management Department will be happy to work with any individual or group that would like to have additional information. We are here to help.
