I am writing in response to the articles that appeared in the North Carolina section of The Virginian Pilot recently.
I hope the people of Dare County are awakened by their response to Mrs. Shirley Hassell's attendance at a recent function held by the Dare County Republican Party, which featured our congressman, Walter Jones Jr.
I attended this function and as a member of the Dare County Republican Party am proud to state my position.
I recall that when Board of Commissioners Chairman Robert V. ``Bobby'' Owens ran for office, he had a new agenda, he had changed from his ways, etc. Where are those changes he spoke of?
Bashing a fellow Democratic representative for her attendance to an open political function, for representing all of the people in Dare County and not just the select few the others seem to represent!
I hope the people have taken notice; Bobby Owens' changes have not been for our best interest, but for what is best for the select few he represents. He had the nerve to ask all of the people of Dare County for their support and their vote during his last campaign, which resulted in his being elected.
Boy, I hope the other half of Dare County, the people at the bottom of the self-serving Board of Commissioners' list, get out in 1996 and vote for candidates who are willing to represent all of the people and not just the people who will in turn benefit them.
I also would like to comment on Mr. Bo Taylor's response to Mrs. Hassell's attendance on Feb. ll to the Lincoln Day Dinner held by the Republican Party.
Mr. Taylor, as a Democratic Party chairman, should be ashamed of his reaction to the attendance of Mrs. Hassell at our dinner.
I hope Mr. Taylor realizes that there were as many Democrats present at this dinner as there were Republicans.
The Republican Party encourages the involvement of all of the people of Dare County because we as a party realize that when you are elected to an office your position should represent all people, Republican, Democratic and unaffiliated alike.
I invite any Dare County Democrats to join our party, attend our functions or become involved in our work to better the political system locally.
It is our goal to make Dare County government fair for all concerned.

Vice Chairman
