Jessie Marie Eley, 89, died March 3, 1995, at the East Pavilion. Miss Eley, a native of Southampton County, was the daughter of the late James Leslie and Alice Johnson Eley. She was a former elementary school teacher in North Carolina and was a graduate of Farmville State Teachers College. She was a member of High St. United Methodist Church. Survivors include three nieces: Winnifred E. Reid of Emporia, Anne E. Mish of Lexington, Carol Crosby Rollings of Dendron; three nephews, Thomas O. Crosby Jr. and Martin Crosby, both of Baton Rouge, La., and Joseph L. Everett of Newsoms; three great nieces and five great nephews. Miss Eley was predeceased by one brother, Hubert Leslie Eley; five sisters, Annie E. Prince, Leatha E. Crosby, Thelma E. Everett, Doris Eley, and Elizabeth Eley; and one nephew, Rev. C. Roy Everett Jr. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Riverside Cemetery, Courtland, by Rev. David Erickson and Rev. James Browder. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to High St. United Methodist Church. Wright Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
