Annie Mae Elizabeth Newby, of the 800 block of Goff Street, died March 4, 1995, in a Lake Taylor City Hospital.
She was born in Fayetteville, N.C. and was a receptionist for the Anne Barnes Corporation and was the Majordomo for the Dr. and Mrs. Jewel Wanger Family. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Interdenominational Community Church, W.C.S.C., Senior Citizens and the Gospel Choir, and was a founding member of the church.
Survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Land of Staten Island, N.Y. and Anita Newby of Norfolk; two sons, Roosevelt Newby and Herbert Newby, both of Norfolk; five sisters, Geraldine Reid of California, Barbara Givens and Janice Fields, both of Maryland, Vivian Wakefield of Norfolk, and Carrie Bufford of South Carolina; two brothers, LeAndrew Newby Jr. of California and Calvin Perkins of Norfolk; 17 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a devoted foster sister, Ms. Christine Stepney of Norfolk; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be conducted Thursday, March 9, 1995, at noon by the Rev. Willie McNair in Mt. Zion Interdenominational Community Church, 2345 Indian River Rd., Chesapeake. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery. The remains will be ready for viewing Wednesday at 3 p.m. She will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Thursday. The family will assemble at 825 Goff Street at 11 a.m. for the processional. Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel in charge.
