Why has no one figured out the real reason Pat Robertson and other Christian leaders declined to meet with Mel White to debate the homosexual lifestyle and why it should be accepted as good and natural?
It has nothing to do with judging, condemning or even differing in opinion with Mr. White. Pat Robertson and other Christians are merely standing by their leader's teachings. That's what you do when you embrace a belief system and call yourself by that name.
To express personal opinions about such things is anyone's prerogative, but those opinions hardly matter when the one in whose name we supposedly base the discussion, that is Christ (Christianity), has already spoken on the subject. A debate, then, becomes a non-issue.
Should Mr. White sincerely seek a meeting with Pat Robertson to discuss truths based on God's time-honored word, he'd likely find an open door. But, sadly, I suspect his intentions are to coerce an acceptance among the Christian community for something his own heart is uncomfortable with, thus seeking a pseudo-soother for the gnawing pain of his own conscience.
People speak of the need to quit judging and be more ``Christlike.'' Truly, no one has the right to judge. We all already have a judge, and he leaves us this choice: We can live by his standards or we can live by our own standards, but we cannot have it both ways and call ourselves his followers.
