Jeanne Marie Grell Bellis, 51, of the 900 block of Bay Colony Drive, died March 8, 1995, in a Virginia Beach hospital.
Mrs. Bellis was born in Norfolk and was a member of Star of The Sea Catholic Church in Virginia Beach. Mrs. Bellis graduated from Old Dominion University in 1965. Mrs. Bellis was an elementary school educator in Norfolk and Virginia Beach and a CPR instructor. She was a past president of the Junior League of Norfolk/Virginia Beach Inc., and a member for over 25 years, serving in numerous leadership positions. She was the recipient in 1991 of that organization's award presented to its outstanding sustaining member. Mrs. Bellis was committed to parent-teacher collaboration and served as a board member and officer in the PTAs of Linkhorn Elementary, Virginia Beach Junior High, First Colonial High and Cox High schools. Additional community service work included participation on the Executive Committee of the Tidewater Chapter of the American Red Cross, where she chaired the Nominating Committee. She was a member of the Bay Colony Garden Club.
Survivors include her husband, John R. Bellis; two daughters, Jacqueline J. Bellis and Karen E. Bellis, both of Virginia Beach; her mother, Dorothy Prieur Grell and her father, Capt. Theodore A. Grell, U.S.N. (Ret.), both of Virginia Beach; a sister, Patricia Grell Porter of Fresno, Calif.; and a brother, Theodore A. Grell Jr. of Virginia Beach. She was the granddaughter of the late William H. Prieur Jr.
A funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, by Father Raymond McIntyre. Burial will be in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, Virginia Beach. A Christian wake service will be held Friday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Red Cross.
