THE TOP FOUR scorers and the floor general of the championship team compose the 1994-95 All-Southeastern District boys basketball squad.
Churchland's D.J. Dunbar, the only repeater on the team, was chosen as most valuable player in voting by the eight coaches in the district.
Mike Holland, Churchland's point guard, was selected, along with Oscar Smith's William Bonner, Deep Creek's Shelton Davis and Great Bridge's Tony King.
All are seniors except King, a junior.
Dunbar, who sparked Churchland to both the regular-season and district tournament titles, was the Southeastern's premier scorer with a 10.2 average. Only in one game all season did he miss scoring in double figures, hitting 43 against Deep Creek. The 6-3 Dunbar, a swing player, can go inside or step out and take 3-pointers with equal ease. He also was the Truckers' second-leading rebounder and led the team in steals with 2.6 per game.
``He's just an all-around excellent player,'' said Churchland coach Mac Carroll. ``No player in the area could do all the things that Dunbar does.''
Holland, who averaged 9.1 assists this season, set a career record at Churchland in assists (604) while averaging 12 points per game. ``When we lost out to Kecoughtan in the Eastern Region, Mike had 15 assists,'' said Carroll. ``That shows how he stepped up in the big games.''
A 6-0 senior guard, Bonner was the No. 2 scorer in the district with a 17.7 average. He was the MVP among players in Chesapeake schools, hitting double figures in every Oscar Smith game except two.
``This is quite an honor for William,'' said Oscar Smith coach Sandy Williams.
King, a 5-9 junior guard, topped the Great Bridge scorers and was third in the district with a 16.1 average. He also reached double figures in every game except two.
The 6-1 Davis, a forward, headed Deep Creek's scoring attack and was the No. 4 pointmaker in the Southeastern with a 15.9 average. He racked up 32 points in a game against Churchland.
``For his size, you won't find a better post player,'' said Deep Creek coach Benny Polk. ``He was definitely a floor leader and one of the key ingredients to this year's ball club.''
The all-district team had an overall scoring average of 81 points per game.
The second-team included six players - David Selby of Indian River, Javon Artis and Mike Harrington of Deep Creek, Torey Jordan of Great Bridge, Wilson's Perez Bottoms and Norcom's Victor Johnson. None made the No. 2 unit a year ago.
Johnson, Jordan and Harrington, who transferred to Deep Creek from First Colonial the past year, are seniors. Bottoms is a junior. Selby and Artis are sophomores.
Bottoms topped the second-team scorers with a 15.2 average. Jordan had a 13.9 average. Harrington averaged 13.6, Johnson 13.4, Artis 12.9 and Selby 11.2.
Churchland's Carroll was picked as coach of the year, leading the Truckers to a 12-2 district record and an overall mark of 21-5. ILLUSTRATION: Dunbar
