JOSEPH D. GARCIA III

Joseph Daniel ``Joey'' Garcia III, 17, a student, died March 6, 1995, in Norfolk.

He was born in Portsmouth and was a junior at Salem High School. He was an honor student in his freshman and sophomore years. He was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, NAS Oceana, and had been a pediatrics volunteer at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters. He had worked at International House of Pancakes on Virginia Beach Blvd.

Survivors include his mother, Juana Hurtado Garcia; his father, Joseph G. Garcia Jr.; a sister, Laurie E. Garcia; and two brothers, Jason A. Garcia and Derek S. Garcia, all of Virginia Beach; maternal grandparents, Estela and Alex Gonzalez, and paternal grandmother and god-mother, Renee Garcia, all of Chicago.

A funeral Mass will be conducted at noon Saturday in Church of the Good Shepherd, NAS Oceana, Virginia Beach, by Chaplain James Minnis and Chaplain James Melley. Burial will be in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. A Christian wake service will be held at 5 p.m. today in Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kemspville Chapel, where the family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. to receive friends. Memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters, Norfolk.
