Richard Henry Blount, 93, died March 8, 1995.
He was a native of Isle of Wight County, a self-employed farmer and general store owner. He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, its deacon and trustee boards. He was also a member of Campbell Chapel Lodge (NU)64, F & A Masons Inc.; past president of the South James River Baptist Sunday School Convention; former Sunday School superintendent and teacher; Adult Choir member; organizer and member of Girl Scouts of America, Hill Street Baptist Church Chapter; and organizer and past PTA president of the Isle of Wight Training School. He was the widower of Irene Spratley Blount.
Survivors include five daughters, Elsie Williams, Iris B. Brown, both of Smithfield, Elizabeth Evans-Pollard of Victoria, Sharon B. Deloatch of Conway, N.C., and Conie Johnson of Orange Park, Fla.; three sons, R. Edward Blount, Miles A. Blount Sr. and Theron H. Blount Sr., all of Smithfield; two sisters, Evelena B. Wilson of Smithfield; two brothers, Marcus B. Blount and Clinton A. Blount Sr. of Smithfield; 26 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be condcuted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Main Street Baptist Church by the Rev. Aaron L. Dobynes. Burial will be in Baptist Memorial Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at noon Saturday. A wake service will be in held in Main Street Baptist Church from 7 to 8 p.m. today. The family will assemble at the residence at 12:45 p.m. Saturday. Pretlow & Chapman Funeral Home, Smithfield, is handling arrangements.
